PRESS RELEASE – 07 December 2022, Copenhagen
Dominion Energy, a Fortune 500 utility company based in Richmond, Virginia, has today joined as leading member of Global Wind Organisation.
Currently developing the 2.6-GW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project, which will generate enough clean, renewable energy to power up to 660,000 homes, Dominion Energy will commit to using GWO's globally recognised safety and technical training standards, where appropriate, for its employed and contracted workforce of technicians.
GWO members, like Dominion Energy, work side-by-side to develop minimum safety and technical training standards. The training is delivered by a fast-growing global network of more than 500 independent certified training providers in over 50 countries around the world.
In the United States and Canada, there are over 12,500 wind turbine technicians who have a valid GWO training record today. The number of workers taking the training increased, which means employers like Dominion Energy can quickly onboard them to projects, knowing they have the right safety and technical skills for the job.
Joshua Bennett, Vice President of Offshore Wind for Dominion Energy said,
“The safety of our colleagues is our top priority at Dominion Energy. Joining Global Wind Organisation allows us to tap into the already successful training and safety standards established for the wind industry. We look forward to working with GWO and its members to learn and share best practices to raise these standards to ensure the continued safety of our colleagues.”
Jakob Lau Holst CEO of Global Wind Organisation added:
“Any member joining GWO is good news for the safety of the wind workforce, and we are grateful to add this uniquely North American presence with Dominion Energy in our family. We look forward to collaborating with their safety and training professionals to help us meet our collective goal of ensuring the continuation of a safe and productive wind workforce.”
