National Wind Training Guidelines on track in Brazil

GWO and ABEEólica collaborate to align industry standards with Brazilian regulations.

A new set of workforce guidelines is on the horizon, following an in-person workshop in Brazil’s largest city last week.

GWO’s project team joined representatives from ABEEólica, the Brazilian Association of Wind Energy, last week, to begin a process that will identify and reduce duplication of training, improve access to industry standards and meet local safety regulations.

The collaboration allows the GWO Entry Level Framework, defining training pathways for new entrants to the wind workforce, to be aligned with Brazilian requirements through a gap analysis. The results of this process allow ABEEólica to present Guidelines for Entry Level Wind Turbine Workforce Training as a tool helping policymakers understand the ways in which Brazilian requirements either duplicate or complement the contents of GWO training. National guidelines for training are an established way for the wind industry, employers, governments and policymakers to align on pathways for upskilling the next generation of workers. Similar projects were completed in 2023 and 2024 in the United States in partnerships with American Clean Power and the Japanese Wind Power Association respectively.

Ann Duedahl, Chair of the GWO Training Committee and Global Learning Leader at GE Renewable Energy, remarked:

Workforce continues to be a strategic priority for meeting the challenges of the sector in the coming years. The ABEEólica guidelines support the communication of an entry level worker’s pathway into employment for the industry.

Julie Brown, Head of Training Development at Global Wind Organisation, added:

The completion of our third country-specific guideline in support of the GWO Entry Level Framework marks a significant milestone in advancing workforce development. This achievement represents a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with ABEEólica and our Brazilian members to strengthen the wind energy sector.
