Today, GWO’s Control of Hazardous Energies (COHE) Training Standard has been officially launched following a rigorous pilot testing program in GWO certified training centres in Europe, the United States and China.
The GWO COHE working group has created a training standard in response to the substantial risk posed to technicians, and potential for incidents related to hazardous energies.
In the Basic COHE safety Module, the new standard enables participants to manage risks, and act safely when working with or in the vicinity of hazardous energies. The next two modules focus on more specific risks regarding electrical safety of low voltage electricity and working with hydraulic and pressurized fluids.
All existing GWO certified Training Providers, especially those which deliver Basic Technical Training, and already have most of the infrastructure required, are encouraged to adopt this standard as soon as possible.
Christian Munck Jørgensen, GWO Project Manager, explained:
“This one of the most complex and ambitious training standards that our members have requested. For the COHE standard, we have worked hard to ensure the training will be applicable across borders while delivering the benefits of a generic, standardised training that employers will need for technicians.”

About the CoHE (Control of Hazardous Energies) Standard
The Control of Hazardous Energies training standard provides a structured framework of safety training for some of the significant risks to workers in the wind environment.
The training standard’s three modules; Basic Safety, Electrical Safety and Pressure Fluid Safety offer 24 individual lessons which together offer a comprehensive standard.
As for all GWO standards, each lesson is sub-divided into individual learning objectives, instructor requirements and suggestions for suitable learning activities which guide participants’ learning experience.
