The GWO General Assembly met on 21st Mar 2024 in Spain. During the busy programme GWO member representative discussed GWO Workforce '26 Strategy and elected a trio of new representatives to the Board of Directors.

Workforce '26

Following a detailed analysis and dialogue process between members during 2023 and 2024, GWO launched Workforce 26, its new long-term strategy. The strategy, called Workforce ‘26 maintains GWO’s original scope and core services, but with a new emphasis on four objectives, which combine inspiration and ambition, underpinned by targets and supporting initiatives.

As part of our new strategy, the Secretariat team and I have collaborated closely with the Board of Directors to develop a new strategic plan. Called 'Workforce '26', the plan focuses on four core objectives that we believe should be the collective focus of our efforts.

Jakob Lau Holst CEO, Global Wind Organisation

The four objectives are defined as:

1) Drive excellence in quality. We will set the bar for basic safety and technical training in the wind industry, by collaborating with stakeholders to standardise GWO training outcomes.

2) Lead the industry in workforce development. We will drive up the number of GWO trained entry-level technicians, securing a workforce fit for the industry’s long-term growth in construction, installation, operations, and maintenance.

3) Build leading position in top 20 markets. We will strengthen GWOs position and build a more complete supply of training in the top 20 markets.

4) Pursue a role in solar. We assess and understand opportunities for training solar PV technicians working on utility scale projects and apply GWO’s strengths in standardisation, quality assurance and distribution as proof of concept to expand our industrial scope.

GWO’s not-for-profit status will allow it to continue reinvesting in capacity that facilitates and creates new standards, improve our processes, and deliver value to the wind energy and wider renewables sector. The next three years will see us ramping up this activity, investing in people, technology and building new partnerships that create value for all users.
